About the LEGO Star Wars Droid Tri-Fighter
This LEGO Droid Tri-Fighter is an amazing 268 piece set measuring over 8″ (20cm) long. The Droid Tri-Fighters always come with an armed escort of two jet pack equipped battle droids and this one is no different. The central pod’s cockpit opens to reveal a battle droid commander at the controls, flick-firing the bombs and blaster cannon causing mayhem to Republic troops and Jedi Knights alike.
About the Droid Tri-Figher
The droid tri-fighter was designed by the Colicoid Creation Nest as a fast, agile and well armed space-superiority starfighter. The three bracing arms surrounded the rotating, gyroscopic core. The Droid Tri-Fighter’s three-armed design was based on the skull features of a fearsome predator native to the planet Colla IV where it was manufactured by Colla Designs and Phlac-Arphocc Automata Industries. The gyroscopic core was home to the droid’s advanced artificial brain or pilot.
The Droid Tri-Fighter’s main armament was one heavy laser cannon protruding from the central ball. Additionally each of the three arms was mounted with a smaller laser cannon, which could slightly tilt to track it’s target and could fire independently or together. The arms were also home to a missile load of between two and six missiles depending on the type and mission.
The droid tri-fighter had three independent thrusters, providing it with great agility. Although it could not outrun the Eta-2 Actis Interceptors favoured by the Jedi, it was bulkier and more heavily armed and came equipped with a powerful reactor and control/commucations transceiver that gave the craft unusual range for a fighter drone.
With this armament and agility the droid tri-fighter excelled in dogfighting, with either an artificial brain or a battle droid at the controls. It challenged even the best ships and pilots as evidenced during the Battle of Coruscant, where they decimated ARC-170 squadrons. Swarms of them also fought in the battle within the City of Coruscant, harassing clone pilots and even Jedi; three tri-fighters came close to overcoming Jedi ace Saesee Tiin before being taken out by Anakin Skywalker.
